I meant to get this to you earlier but have been flat out since returning to Australia. Our trip to Duncanby was just one of those special times you have if you are so lucky in life. I just keep telling everyone the stories and showing off the photos. None of us have ever caught fish like that – and from what I have seen subsequently they were only babies! I can understand your love for the place. What a sensational part of the world and you – with Duncanby Lodge – has just made it that more special. It’s the total experience. The beauty of Rivers Inlet. Getting there on the sea plane. Being looked after day and night by a fabulous crew in a beautiful part of the world. Plus it’s nice to catch some good fish! I can’t make it next year because I need to take my wife to “other parts of the world” but hope to be back in 2013. Thanks from all the Aussies – Mike, Mike, David and Matt.

We had a great time with you and your staff. Everything exceeded our expectations. The entire trip was outstanding. Thank you for your warm hospitality. The fish tastes great and tonight we are steaming muscles with your sauce recipe.

I just returned from my five days of intensive therapy. It went well. I didn't check the web site once when I was there, I caught the biggest fish in my life and the counsellors said I was cured......however since returning home I have relapsed. I check the web site, the live camera and the photos of all the fish (still waiting for the photo of my 44 pound tyee to hit the photo page). It's a vacation that lasts all year. Six months looking forward to it and six months reliving the memories. I'm okay with this kind of problem.

I never got a chance to tell you both what a wonderful time I had on the Lordco Fish-on 2011. Your staff makes everything outstanding – they are so friendly and helpful. I would like to say something about “Starfish” Brydon. Kevin, Tim and I went out with him on Monday and I think that was the most fun I have ever had. We were very successful with bringing in the fish and Brydon was an outstanding guide/host. We laughed so much that day my face and tummy hurt (in a good way). I just wanted you both to know that this is a trip that I will always remember. There were so many firsts for me. The float plane, fishing for salmon, and being out on a boat. The first salmon I have ever landed was with Cole on Sunday – that was the 14 lb Coho. These are memories that will last a lifetime – I wanted you to know how special this trip was for me. I would also like to mention that Cole was outstanding also. Being my first time salmon fishing – when I had my first salmon on the line Cole was excellent in instructing me what to do and how to let it run and then bringing it in. He was so happy for me when we got it on the boat right away the high fives came out.

Thank you for the 5+ days at Duncanby. You have developed a great lodge in an amazing place and your passion for this special place is evident. The hospitality that you and your “crew” displayed was amazing and the level of service along with the friendly family like atmosphere left all in our group very impressed. The personal touches that you added were noticed by all in our group. Oh...... and the fishing was spectacular as well with most people limiting out!! Some in our group indicated a desire to return on their own next year with family members and friends and everyone of them told me that they thoroughly enjoyed the trip. As I mentioned to you before I have been to a few fishing lodges over the years but Duncanby is the one I would choose to return to and would recommend to anyone without hesitation. Thanks again!

Hi Sid, thanks for a great time at Duncanby. Sydney, Charlie and in particular Dylan made our trip particularly good; these are great employees to have. Braden had a great time making the milk shakes; thanks for that. Have a great summer.

I just wanted to drop you a line to let you that our fishing experience at Duncanby couldn't have been better. Pete was an excellent guide, brimming with enthusiasm, as well as knowing how to fish the best spots (I'm sure his good karma is why I landed a 24.5lb. King Salmon and a 20lb. Halibut shortly after we wet our lines.)

Mark D 8/10/11

Thanks for having us Sid. Ryan had a tremendous time. You have a special guide there with Pete, he took extra time to teach me how to use the downriggers and and set the lines. I never would have caught the ones on Tuesday without his tips. He was also great with Ryan, answering all his questions.

Just a short note to let you know that Liam and I had a great time with super weather and great fishing. As usual it is the people that make any experience and the Duncanby staff were awesome. Thanks for everything.

I just wanted to thank you for one of the most amazing trips of my life. My buddies and I can’t wait to come back. The scenery was spectacular. The fishing was “off the hook” awesome. Our guide, Spiderman, was a blast and outstanding at his job. The lodging and the food was five star resort quality. But the most impressive thing about the place is the attitude of you, the staff, and the service level that we received. Sid, the owner, leaves nothing to chance. It is his goal to touch the lives of all that visit. Duncanby is truly a special place. It was a kick in the pants from the time we arrived until we sadly boarded the float plane to leave. Thank you all for a wonderful time.

Once again I am having difficulties finding the right words to express my gratitude for the trip to Duncanby this year. I so very much enjoy going to Duncanby that words just can’t express how I feel. Your generosity is very much appreciated. This year will stand out as the best trip ever! The weather, the fishing and the company was just unbelievable. Even the delayed departure was OK as we had a chance to have a nice lunch and relax at the Flying Beaver with Tina and Bruce. Also, as both Ian’s and my wife were out of town, we took advantage of the Saturday “boys night out” and solved half the problems in the world over a few bottles of Ian’s finest wine. The other half of the world’s problems were solved out on the calm waters near Calvert Island where we still limited out on salmon even though our trip was unfortunately shortened. Your ability to make us feel like family at Duncanby is incredible. From the first step off the plane, the first refreshment, the first fish in the boat (a 29 lb spring) to the final days buffet lunch…… I wish I could spent the whole summer experiencing the Duncanby Difference!!

Just got back to reality and 110 degree heat here in Texas. The week that Vicki and I spent at Duncanby Lodge was a trip of a lifetime. I was concerned that Vicki would have difficulty with the waves and the boats but I do believe she enjoyed her trip as much as I. The facilities, dining and personnel at Duncanby’s are as fine as I have ever experienced. Every individual I met was friendly and accommodating and always met you with a smile. The fishing guides were as professional as any I have met and I want to extend a special thanks to Riley as he made our trip a dream. A special thanks to Sid, Logie, Sidney, JoAnn and the entire staff for extending the hospitality that made this trip one to remember.

I wanted to take a moment and thank you for a wonderful trip from all of us it was the best time possible and with out a doubt we will be back. You are a very lucky man to have such a wonderful crew and a great place to call your own

On behalf of the entire PetroValue Team I would like to thank you again for your incredible hospitality right from the beginning through until the end of this year's trip. I know the logistics for this trip were extremely challenging and our group has a very good understanding of the costs incurred in securing all of those additional aircraft to make sure that everyone arrived in Duncanby as early as possible. Unreal! On Saturday Leigh was unbelievable in making sure that everyone was taken care of at the highest level! In fact that is what we see every year from the entire Duncanby Team. It is an experience unlike any other!! There is a depth to that experience that really grabs you. The only way I can explain it is that you are really excited leading up to the trip, you are sad to leave however the experience is so positive and profound that it carries you through until you get on that floatplane the next year. I suppose it reminds us of what is possible when you combine passion and commitment with caring and compassion. Many thanks to both of you and of course the entire Duncanby Team!

I have never been able to take 8 days off before and I had a ton of catch up. I don't know how to say thanks to you. The trip was everything I heard it would be and more. Mike had described it but it was much more than that. You have a fantastic place in a beautiful and remote part of the world. Thank you for your generosity and for your hospitality. I hope to return with the crew again next year. Best wishes to you Leigh Mac and great staff.

Neil 7/28/11

Hi Sid, I wanted to express one last heartfelt thank you to Leigh, yourself, your family and all of your staff for the amazing welcome and hospitality during my stay. I felt as though I was an old friend. I will book a trip next year once I get grounded again. Liz and I are leaving for a trip on our motorcycle with my sister and bro-in-law (a last chance thing for them) through the BC interior. We may end up in Van. Depends on the where the wind blows us. 'Til later...never forget..rainbows and butterflies. I will never forget "you cannot have a bad day when you wear tie-dye". LOL Ciau for now.

Scott and Cathy M 7/26/11

from the time Cathy and I arrived at the sea air terminal until the time we returned was perfect, the fishing was better than I could have ordered ,the food was on par with some of the finest restaurants my wife and I have enjoyed and my back ground is in restaurants we owned a few, but the one thing that I can't say enough about is the service, your staff was by far one of the greatest factors in our trip!! The staff on the dock were great, the kitchen and wait staff were the best and the rooms were taking care of better than a 4 star hotel, so that leaves you and I must say you do round out the whole crew you and your wife are some of the most gracious host we have ever had the pleasure of knowing and want to thank you both for a great trip . They say the best compliment you can give is that you would go back again because you liked it and I can say for sure we will be back, Thanks from the bottom of our hearts

As usual we had a most Spectacular time. Already looking forward to returning to the Greatest Place on earth about a month from now. I honestly feel sorry for all the people out on the water that are not in a Duncanby Boat. They are probaly having a good time but they really have no Idea what they are Missing. I am sure you know what I mean.

So here is a testimonial from someone who hasn't been to Duncanby lodge this year. I have been there the last two summers and am eagerly awaiting this years trip. Here is the problem ...I am addicted to the website. I check every day and feel like a 6 year old on the night before Christmas. Every time I am on the site I expect my wife to walk in with my family to conduct an intervention and send me away for three weeks to a facility that treats people like me. I believe the only way to fix the problem is to travel north to a remote location for five days of intensive therapy

Dear Sid and Leigh, You and your fantastic Duncanby family are now 2 for 2. I returned with another alumnus, Paul “Fish Tacos” Wilkinson and his son Jason, my buddy Chris who is a saltwater rookie, and we also convinced 4 Australians to join us. I had really talked the lodge up…..and just as I expected, Duncanby Lodge went far past our expectations, just as it did last year. From the second you see it from the plane to the moment they haul our reluctant fannies back to Vancouver, everything was again superb. Whatever kudos Luke, Allison and their kitchen staff get are likely woefully insufficient. We spent 2 days in Vancouver before and after, and we never dined as well there as we did at the lodge. A dehydrated and sometimes groggy early morning is made so much better the moment you get the “Good morning!” from Allison. So great to see Katherine again, and new faces Sydney, Tyler, Charlie, Liah and Michelle fit right in seamlessly. Hard to pick a favorite. Some great staff additions on the dock as well, and I REALLY apologize for not getting all their names in here. Drew and Chopsticks were on their game, as expected (making sure to follow Chelsea’s directives) and Dylan and the rest of the boys were great to chat with and share fishing info. They are the ones we deal with most, and they are great reps of the Keay way. If you want good chat, good info( and a few fibs) being on the dock with a coffee in the wee hours with that crew is nothing but good times. My bud Chris is smiling from the moment he gets up to when he starts sawing logs, and Riley is just like that. You’re lucky to have him buzzing around. I knew he is only there sporadically, and I’m glad we caught him there. Logie, Volkswagon back in top form, and it was great to meet Peace Core and Starfish, two guys who put their guests on the fish. Mac is a good man, an excellent fisherman, and has become a good friend. You have lots to be proud of in him. And oh yeah…..we caught fish until we were tired of catching fish!! Left forearm all knotted up now, and palm of right hand has two nice burn marks from the reels spinning like mad. Good pain…. People make the place, and that’s part of the reason I now have to pony up some deposits for next year so early! A great reflection on your entire operation that bookings are already well underway for next season. We know why. Best wishes to you all for a strong rest of the season. Thanks alone don’t cut it, but you know us now and how we feel, and you know we’ll be back. Mike

Sid, I wanted to send an e-mail to say thank you for such a great trip. I had a fantastic time at Duncanby although I expect that it would be hard not to! You and your team take customer service to heart and it shows in everything that you do. You are a truly passionate person which makes the experience that much more fun.....especially for someone like me who has never fished before....and you are a great (and patient) coach :o) Can you please also pass along a special thank you to your team, in particular Cole (who is an awesome person to spend time with and a great guide), Katherine (who is absolutely lovely in every way), Charlotte (she has such a great energy) and Lea (she is going to have a great summer with you). Tyler, Alice, Dillon and the rest of the crew were just fantastic as well. Anyhow, I hope you have a great July long weekend with fireworks on the 2nd! I will be spreading the word about your Lodge and hope to see you again at some point in the future. All the best and have a great summer! Take care....

Just a quick note of thanks to everyone… Sid, you mentioned at the orientation meeting that your goal was to have guests feel like a welcomed family member into your home… you achieved that goal Duncanby Lodge… well done! We’ll huddle up and provide some further feedback, but rave reviews so far… Best Regards… Tight Lines… Tips Up…

Thanks again to you and all your staff for a wonderful week. Having fished the west coast for the last 7 years, I can honestly say that the experience for our little reconnaissance crew was by far the best yet. And it wasn’t necessarily because of the fishing (which was still quite good considering it was early season), but rather the great spirit, service and hospitality of your lodge and staff. We are definitely planning to be repeat offenders at Duncanby! I feel like a coho...I gained 5 pounds if 5 days. Yikes!

I just wanted to send a quick note to thank you again for your hospitality and a truely great fishing trip, your lodge and personnel are one of a kind and I cant wait to visit you again next year.

We just got back from a nice fishing trip to Canada. This year was at www.duncanbylodgemarina.com we have a picture of us with two of the fish we caught on there...go to "this week". The second row of photos...third one is of us. I look a little prune-faced....it was really blowing on the water and the waves were high (if they had been 20 foot swells I would have enjoyed the resort without fishing). Solid surfaces were rocking back and forth...especially standing on that dock. The four of us (a friend couple went with us...Bernice and Ernie) caught a good portion of the fish...by weight anyway. They flew 581 pounds of fish back to Vancouver the night before we came back because the fish would have been over the weight limit for the small planes. The fish had to fly by themselves. The fish were put in the walk in freezer at the Sea-air airport, and an employee of the resort was standing there with them when we got off the plane. Bernice caught a 115 pound halibut (well, her guide brought it in...It was on her pole). Bernice doesn't weigh 115 pounds, and she is nearly 80 years old (that's a guess...I have no idea of her exact age...I'm not asking either). She also has an injured knee this trip...no straining to bring in anything that size. When she realized what was on the line, she handed it over to the guide. He brought it in and managed to get it on the floor of the boat. It was flouncing around. He jumped on it...riding and hanging onto the gills and yelling for someone to get him a lead pipe....which he used to kill the halibut. The thing dressed out to 69 pounds of monster filets. I just wished someone had thought to turn on a video camera. This was true, but most of you will call it a fish story. These guides used something new (to us) to fish for halibut. They make up an "onion bag" and throw it overboard. The burlap bags originally contained onions, so they stink. They are filled with fish guts and rocks. The bag will pretty much stay where it lands and attract bottom feeders. It isn't littering, because everything but the rocks dissolve or are eaten by the fish. Richard and I caught the largest King salmon on the trip...27 and 26 pounds, still not big enough for the Tyee awards (need to be over 30 pounds....next year). See photo #2 and 12. There were large amounts of Coho in the ocean, and we caught our limit of those...and they weren't light weights. The average was 10-17 pounds. Richard and I both got an award for those over 15 pounds...a hat with a fish hook pin. We got lots of bottom fish...sea bass, yellow tail, and other cod fish. We got our limit of halibut. I've attached a photo of the "Brag board", which shows who caught what...the numbers are pounds of fish. Photo #48. We used downriggers to fish for salmon...a first for us. One of the poles had a lure on it called "bad attitude". Our guide said it doesn't look like anything in the ocean, and the fish want to "kill it". It worked amazingly well, and by the time word got around, the guides were all hitting their little store for it. I asked Mack how we will know there is a fish on since the poles are bent nearly double. He said it will go nuts. A few minutes after they were set, I yelled "nuts", and the guide pretty much knew what I was talking about and he jumped and ran....it was on "bad attitude". It is amazing how fast those guys can move. Another fun but true fish story (we hope it was true...it was on the boat's radio) was about a guide seeing a large flasher floating in the water. He used a pole and cast out and caught the line. When he brought it in, there was still a fish attached. He actually tried to find the owner of the flasher, but no luck. For some reason, the guides don't like to fish for halibut. We got our last one Friday morning, and by the time it was in the boat, another one was on the line. We kept the smaller one...a chicken halibut, and gave the larger one to the guide. If we hadn't given away that much fish, it wouldn't have fit in Ernie's van. As it was, we had 11 large boxes to fit in that van and it just made it, with suitcases sharing space with us in the front and back seat of the van. We took it to the hotel where we spent the night and the fish slept in the hotel's freezer. See photo #73 Representatives from other resorts were there and gasped at the amount of fish we unloaded. Apparently several of them came back dry...no fish... so we were feeling really lucky. There was a crowd gathering as we took them out of the van. The resort got lots of publicity, with several guys wanting to know "just where is Duncanbys?" I hope we did you proud. The next morning several people were betting that we wouldn't get all that in the van. One guy said "there's room in my car for what won't fit". The two large spaces I made in our freezers were filled up and were taking up some of the space I have allocated for blueberries. Mack, if you hadn't taken that 25 pound halibut we wouldn't have gotten it home or had a place to put it if we had...your mother is doing us a service by eating it. The best picture I have of the boat is #19. It was pretty comfortable. The boat Bernice and Ernie were on had a toilet...but otherwise we were quite happy with this one.

What a fantastic trip last week. When Barney invited me, he said it would be the “trip of a lifetime.” He was surely correct. Those are memories I will cherish for a lifetime. Everything was perfect! Your terrific staff, the fishing, the food, the accommodations and even the weather all could not have been better. Of course, bringing in a 37 lb. Chinook and getting my hook was the icing on the cake. Thank so much.

We would like to sincerely thank everyone at Duncanby Lodge for the awesome time we had. There’s so much beauty everywhere to soak in, from the incredible whales, to the majestic eagles, and yes even the octopus that Mike caught! Our most heartfelt thanks to you, Sid, and the whole Duncanby Team for the outstanding customer service we received. We had an absolutely amazing trip. Special thanks to Mark for his knowledge and expertise in providing us with a first class guiding experience. Carol definitely got her “freak on” while salmon fishing and did the Hali dance on the boat after she landed her first halibut ever! It’s been one week since we’ve returned and already we can’t wait to get back up there. Duncanby is like a slice of heaven. There’s no place anywhere like it. We feel so fortunate to be part of the Duncanby family. Many thanks again and see you next year!

Thanks again for everything. As always the feedback from our guests has been overwhelmingly positive. The new relationships and the increased strength of previously existing relationships developed at Duncanby each year is nothing short of astonishing. It really is a special place. I know I speak on behalf of the entire group in saying that we are extremely grateful for having the opportunity to spend time with such special people in such an incredible part of the world.

I wanted to take a minute to send you a quick email to thank you and your Family (Team) for the great trip It seems that in today’s society it seems that so many people are not happy nor do they care about others happiness. The family that you have put together at the Lodge is a definite opposite to what most people expect in there day to day lives. It has been a long time since I have seen a group that is as true and as sincere as the Family that you have, in seeing and hearing the honest in each of them toward me and the other guests was very refreshing. It was nice to know that there are still people out there in the world that care about the happiness of others especially when they are somewhat strangers. DUNCANBY LODGE - COME AS A GUEST LEAVE AS A FRIEND

it´s great to be part of the Duncanby Family. Sid, your Lodge is famous. Many thanks to you and your staff. Everything is well organized and truly styled. A dream comes true for me. Hope we will stay in contact. As the article is published I will send copy to you. Best regards

Thanks for the great time at Duncanby. I swear the place keeps getting better with every trip that I come there. The two flatlanders had an awesome trip to your big lake !!! I look forward to being up there again.

What an incredible place!!!! I am trying to figure out how to market this across the Marmon Highway Technologies group and sell some trips for you.. We have to start bring customers there! It is too special of a place to keep to oneself. Just know I will be working my butt off to get you some business! I was so taken in by everything there that I never really had the chance to personally thank you for not only the special time but the order from last week. It was top of my mind until I flew up on Saturday and I experienced sensory overload. So from the bottom of my heart… THANK YOU!

I would just like to pass on our thank you for the outstanding experience my group just had at Duncanby Lodge. This was a once in a lifetime trip for a few in my group that will have life long memories for them. For most of us that are able we will return as often as possible. I overheard several of our group already talking about planning their trip for next year. Right from the planning stages through our arrival and departure we were treated with the most professional friendly staff that we could have imagined. All of the guides were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I would like to pass on my personal thank you to Riley for his assistance with my group, Every person who had the pleasure to be on his boat had nothing but praise for his professional help and outgoing cheerful personality so thank you Riley. As I said all of the guides were fantastic but Riley was a real standout. I would also like to thank Teena for her terrific attitude and her heartfelt concern when I was experiencing my many bouts with motion sickness, I could tell you actually felt bad for me when most everyone else thought it was funny. We would also like to congratulate Krystal on her achievement with making the Dean's list, There is no surprise there when you have the work ethic and personality you displayed within our group and I would also like to apologize for some of the comments you had to endure from a couple of jackasses in our group. Keep smiling !! Right from the dockstaff to the kitchen our visit was first class. Last but not least I would like to thank Sid and Leigh for all you did for us and allowing us to have one of the most memorable holidays we could imagine. You have an absolutely fabulous Lodge.

Just wanted to send you a special thanks to you Carey for allowing me the opportunity to share the wonderful experience of Duncanby with you, the Driving Force team and the rest of your guests. I have had the opportunity of doing many things throughout my lifetime, but the trip to Duncanby has truly been one of the most memorable. Not sure how I will repay you, but I will think of something

Every conscientious business owner worth his salt would want to know what his customers think. I can say this. We are sad. We are the sad group that waits on the pier for the squadron of float planes to haul us away. We have to helplessly sit and watch as the newbies hop off the plane, and gasp at the beauty of the inlet. These guys are going to take over OUR cabins. We will go home to eat food, while THEY will be dining on cuisine. We have to answer phones, faxes, e-mails, while they get to ignore the real world and live in a special place. We have to look at concrete, traffic, buildings, while they get to watch eagles in the trees and overhead, whales all over, and that endless carpet of cedar and pine. But we are happy that we will be returning, and for the many friends we made. I guess you can only be sad if you know true happiness. From the kid who scrapes fish blood off the boats, to the chefs that could work in any 5-Star restaurant, there are countless moving parts to the Duncanby experience, and yet they are coordinated and seamless. Everybody looks like they love their jobs, each other, and their guests. There is not a weak link, there is not a thing to complain about. Yeah…we could hope for better water and weather, more and bigger fish, but we are fishermen, and we, more than anyone know that you get what you get. We were given every chance, great equipment, and we can not complain. You have put together a crew, a special place, an experience that delivers so much more than is advertised. You tout the “Duncanby Difference”, and it’s right there in front of everybody. I can’t say enough about this experience, and my pics and video and memories will continue to allow me to close my eyes and be there whenever I want. It regenerated my soul, and charged me up for the future. There is a pervasive feel about the place, something beyond fishing and just being there. I guess everyone interprets that differently, but all have to love it. Thunderous applause, comprehensive thanks, not only for all of the above, but for being able to call you my friend. I am only sorry we didn’t get to have Leigh enjoy it with us, but we’ll save that for next time. Please set me and Pistol Pete up with whatever we need for the golf tourney you help sponsor. We will chat before my family cruises from Vancouver to Anchorage and I hijack our vessel into the inlet in Mid August. Thanks a million Bud. Continued success to you…health and happiness. Sid - thanks so very much for the amazing time had by all. I am already getting inquiries and questions from folks that have heard about our trip. Look forward to networking with you to help fill your weeks. Outside of my FNA role, I am happy to volunteer my time with marketing and sales activities for Duncanby anytime. Let me know if you need any help. After having spent some time up there my mind is full of ideas and it would be fun to help fill the weeks for next year. What a fabulous product to market! Thanks again - your are a wonderful person with an outstanding team. I think you have hit the mark with your concept for Duncanby. You certainly have surrounded yourself with an excellent group of people.

we just wanted to say how much we enjoyed our fishing trip for the halibut tourney in 09. The lodge is first class all the way and the staff is great. I loved the trip so much Jim sent me back to enjoy the Tyee tourney after winning the halibut tournement. Jim has traveled all over Canada with lodges fishing and said Duncanby is the best he has ever had the pleasure of fishing at. We had the best time and we will be joining the lodge again this July to fish the Tyee tourney again. Thank you Sid, Leah and the whole gang for making Duncanby a fabulous place with great people and memories. See you guys Soon.
