We (us and the boys) left bright and early the morning of August 23 for our fishing trip. We left from South Terminal at YVR at 9:30 a.m. We flew to Port Hardy, an hour flight on a 19-seat Beechcraft. It's like a flying cigar. Most seats have a small window but some do not. You can see everything the pilots are doing. At Port Hardy we switched to a 9-seat Grumman Goose seaplane (built in 1937). Sounds like a flying tank with a lot of vibration. The plane takes off on wheels and lands at the Lodge on its belly with a couple of floats coming down from the wings. Go to read their whole story here

Hello Dave: Looks like things are back to regular here. That August month must have been the fastest one of the year. We took a bit of weather coming out but the boat behaved well and the only thing we were out were a few extra hours between the Lodge and coming out of Q.C Straits. It was pretty wild. What fabulous country it is !! Unbelievable beauty that gets into your blood. We had a super time and this e-mail serves to thank you for the good care we received. There was many a time when I sat at your table that I had to close my eyes and remind myself that we were away up North .... How was it possible to have such great cuisine ??? You can sure do'r my man !! It was very enjoyable for sure. Dave, I noticed time and again that you don't miss a damn thing!! It was much appreciated !! Again, my big THANK YOU to all of you, you made our stay just great. Also, please say hello to Sid and tell him he's running "A SURE WINNER".

Please excuse the delay in getting the pictures sorted out and contacting you regarding the very special trip Dylan and I had to Duncanby in August. I can't thank you guys enough for the incredible experience for two keen, but totally inexperienced salt water anglers. The hospitality and attitude of the whole team at Duncanby was truly first class. We felt welcome from the first time we saw Syd in the tie-dye to the journey back with Dylan in the front of the plane. I was only sad that we hardly said goodbye having to commandeer a taxi to the other terminal where we made our flight with 30secs to spare. A jolt back to reality after 4 days in paradise. Dylan's smiles speak for themselves and his goal is now to find a way to get back next year. Do you need any new staff Syd??? He speaks so highly of the wonderful people he met while we were there and daily asks me why we live in Toronto when we love to sail, play rugby, fish and ski. The big cod is regularly brought out of the freezer and proudly displayed as proof of his prowess and when getting him up for school I remind him how easily he got up at 5am to go fishing and perhaps he can replay that on a school day! Its hard to believe summer is at a close. Thank you both for an amazing opportunity to experience the wonderful life at Duncanby and to build a better bond with my son during those awkward teen years. Its a very special place and we have wonderful photos and memories of the people and wildlife. All the best for the rest of the year for both IronGate and the Lodge and our heartfelt THANKSÂ…

Dear Sid and Warren, Thanks so much for an unforgettable experience. I have never had so much fun in my entire life. Catching those fish was the best thing I did all summer. I think that Duncanby is a really special place and I hope I can attend it again sometime soon. The food was great, the setup is good and the fish are fun to catch. The scenery is like no other it is so remote and beautiful. I have never seen whales in my life and it was really cool to finally see some. The guides and staff are really nice and we got looked after very well. Those planes are also a great experience and sitting in the front on the way back was awesome. I had an amazing time and I hope I can return next year.

Hi Sid, Our trip to Duncanby's was above and beyond our expectations. Your passion to provide your guests with a great experience came through in every way including the facilities, employee's, boats and gear, information of where and how to fish and especially the food. The food at Duncanby's was as good or better than any place I have eaten in Seattle. If you ever take the spicy prawns off the menu I may not come back. We are coming back next year and we already have two guys lined up to come with us. Jerry's stepfather is coming and a buddy of mine from work is joining us. Thanks Steve

Hey Sid

What a nice surprise. Thanks for the E mail and the free day of guiding, which we will use to go out for halibut if we make time. It may be hard to understand the ways Jerry, Matt and I fish, but they fish harder because of it.:] We will probably try to add another day next year if it is left up to me. I am not sure if the show will be in March but we will definitely be there. Let us know what your schedule will be like so we can have dinner while your down here or if your just in the area call us. I have pictures of bald eagles, whales, big fish and great memories thanks to you and Duncanby. If I was up there tomorrow I would not have changed a thing I did on the trip. Everything you promised was there for the asking, and more. God willing I will be there next year for the chase on one of those big springers WOW, what a fish. Call us if you are in the area. Take care Sid

All at Duncanby Lodge:

Thank you all for such a great week fishing, words cannot express the gratitude I felt from the experience of my first Pacific Ocean charter fishing trip. It was awesome to say the least! Ben thank you for your patience and enthusiasm showing us the tricks of fishingÂ… I have to say, catching 50 to 60 fish in one day is hard work! I came with no expectations and left with memories that we will treasure and never forget. Kindest regards, Tony Gregov

Lisa, Thank you for providing us an outstanding fishing experience, we really enjoyed ourselves this year. Your professionalism and attention to detail is really appreciated. The crew at the lodge was excellent, Riley, Ben, Corey, Chelsea, Eric, and the others were all very friendly and willing to help and give advise. Duncanby lodge gave us back the "Family feeling" we missed so much last year. I can't wait until next year to come back again, hopefully you will be up there at the same time so we can fish together and share good memories. Thanks again Butch

Wow ,what an incredible trip.We have a boat and a lot of really good fish stories however; June 30th 2007 I will never forget. We decided we wanted to try for some bottom fish [ halibut ] but bad weather put a halt to that so we went back after salmon and got a 17 lb spring and a 6 lb Coho , good start.Back to the lodge for lunch and cooler recharge and we hit the high seas again.I don't think the lines were in the water for 20 minutes and I was into a 30 lb spring, with light rod and no flasher this was just awesome, major adrenalin rush. The capper was 2 hours later watching my son get into a 40 lb'er, it was the ultimate rush watching my boy hook and land such a big fish.Ben was great and we had the best day I can remember on the water. Sid thank you so very much for making this possible for us , it was a day we will never forget.

We want to thank you so much for the wonderful week. As you know it was a completely new experience for us and I must say that Duncanby Lodge exceeded all of our expectations. Lisa you have done an incredible job on the accommodations and those cabins are extremely comfortable and very relaxing. Pat especially liked the new soap dish! The food was exceptional and your staff made us feel like we were family. We had a great time spending the evening with Harold and his friends and family. And of course The Franchise deserves special acclaim for showing patience in teaching us the exciting sport of salmon fishing. His knowledge is very deep and we appreciated him sharing it with us. We are now "hooked" thanks to him. And Sid, a special thanks for the time you shared with Jason. He had the best time of his life and you gave him some memories that will last his lifetime. We look foreword to seeing you down here in January. But we really look foreword to returning next year for another look at the spectacular scenery, the incredible hospitality and catching some monster fish!!

Dear Sid and Lisa I just wanted to write a short note to thank you. I had the fishing trip of a life time and you have me "hooked". My wife could'nt believe the pictures and the state of her husband, tired and still in a daze! Your staff should be proud of the way they made us enjoy ourselves and I do hope we met your expectations as "good guest, welcome back". Again Thank You! Sincerely

Sid, Mike, Lisa, et all, Wow, what a time. Can't thank you all enough for showing us a great time on my first coast lodge trip. Pampered is the only word I can use to describe the treatment. I will recommend to any friends who may be looking at the coast for a fishing trip. Special thanks to Ben who spent time teaching me the ins and outs of the various fishing techniques. locations, species, etc. He was a big part of my success and I enjoyed his company a lot. I can't mention everyone but what a great team. It is very apparent that this team work very well together. We the customers, are the recipients of that team work. Thanks again, Regards,
