DUNCANBY PREVIOUS WEEKS

14 September 2011
First off I’m sorry that it’s taken this long to get a new this week done. Leigh and I have been crazy busy here we have finally moved into our beautiful new Ocean view home in Whiterock. We bought the lot Aug 29th 2009 but its been worth the wait. Once the boxes are all emptied a few pictures of it will be posted. 2011 was a great year for Duncanby our best ever. A record 65 Tyee’s to our dock and great Coho hali and bottom fishing, whale watching and guests to share it all with us. We set another record in hatchery ticket sales with a whopping 19,800 worth. This is more than all the other lodges combined times 3. Every dime of this money will go to growing fish. I will post some of the egg and sperm take photo’s shortly this work has been going on for the last 6 weeks and we are pumped by the numbers of fish in the creeks. We are very excited about our Coho program as always but are thrilled to have a new helper with our Chinook programs. My friend the man in motion himself Mr Rick Hansen is on board and were gona do some great things with Rick’s support. I got to finally go Sturgeon fishing this year with Rick as my guide and I’m a fan of this fishery Duncanby is proud to be supporting The Sturgeon society’s efforts to protect these amazing fish. Plans for 2012 are well under way. Logie is finally in his new home in Powell River complete with an awesome shop and lots of space to store and work on the guide boat fleet. He is well on his way to making them perfect all we need now is to find 2 Grady White’s we need to add to the fleet. Rye Bone has joined us in a sales capacity this off season and he and Joann have been very busy. We are 70 % booked for next season now. If you haven’t spoken to Rye Bone yet you will be soon and I promise you will enjoy the conversation as he is as passionate in everyday life as he is on the water. He and Logie will be doing a few trade shows this winter we will let you now the locations once we firm up the schedule. The available trip dates are on the web site or shoot Riley an e mail at rileyk@duncanby.com There are a few prime early season trips with space and the fishing then is over the top great. Take a look at the photo album from last year and you will know what I’m talking about. The Volkswagen is getting settled in his caretaker role and has almost got it figured out that Monday is the day after Sunday. Logie and Woody are working on the construction plans for the new crew cabins and will be getting started soon. Leigh and I have regular contact with the crew and are very pleased to report that most will be back in 2012.Chris and I put the finishing touches on the calendar yesterday and once Leigh spell and date checks it the printers will get it and they will be in the mail to all of our Duncanby Friends and Family. The Nice Fish Tv episodes filmed this year with Mack are awesome and almost ready to be shipped. Ok its time to get back to my Ocean Trailer job tight lines everyone and its only 207 more sleeps till opening day 2012.

30 August 2011
Hello all its been another incredible week at Duncanby. First up was a group of old and a few new friends who made the most of great weather and fishing. The laughs and happy sounds of families and friends hanging out with us at Duncanby were fantastic. Special thanks to our friends Carol and Mike for sharing there 32nd anniversary with us. We all look forward to #33 next year. Bruce you and your crew are family to us as well. Matt and Rob seeing you guys with your Dad’s is what Duncanby is all about. Selena it was our honor to give you the Tie Dye hat. All of the guest were special on this trip but 2 very special friends of Duncanby John and Dave will go down in History as 2 of the most special. As you know we are very proud of the support Duncanby friends provide to the hatchery program and that we raise more money for it than all of the other lodges combined each year. John and Dave have decided that they want to attend the Coho derby each year for ever and will be donating 25,000 to our hatchery program each year. Wear the whale tales proudly you two as what you have done will ensure that the day will never come when all our grandkids have to see is a picture of a salmon. Next up was what we will forever call the celebration trip. It was the first annual Jakester memorial in honor of a very fine man and great friend of Duncanby Mr Jake Hildebrand. Jake the boys from Total R your friend’s the crew and I had nothing but smiles and laughs when we spoke of and thought about you. Just the way we know you would want it Jake. Cheers friend. It was also the anniversary of the great test day in my life when Leigh and I were married on the pier here 2 years ago. Thanks to all the guest’s who joined us and the crew for dinner on the 28th. The party was fantastic and ran a tad late. As Mack says dad we look forward to this night all year. Next year the guiding wont start until 9 am on the 29th My girls lead the charge in the party department and yes Ladies you did it up right. A great time was had by all and next year we will light it up on the 28th again.. This year the boys hit the water at 8 and to say the boys play well hurting is an understatement. They limited out all there guests. Rye Bone and Volkswagen slept on there boats. The web site is filled with pictures or will be shortly. The 2011 best crew ever photo was taken today. There were a few tears today as our Pal the Peace Core and My Beautiful Sydney Olivia are flying home for the season today. Leigh and I are in for the last trip which starts today. We cant believe our season is almost over. Well all the planes are in the air for the Coho Derby trip so its time to get back to work. Love To All

23 August 2011
Hello All another great fun filled week at Duncanby it started with a bang great weather and unbelievable great Chinook fishing at Cranstown. 8 tyee hats this late in the season is awesome. The huge Coho also have started to Show. We had our first Tyee Released a beauty 42 pounder by Doug it was a wonderful and emotional moment for All of us by a very good man and friend of Duncanby. This group was a mix of old and new friends and most went home limited out. The next trip started with a bang the Spring fishing the first night at Cranstown was wild with most boats getting 2-4 in our 3 hour session at you guessed it Cranstown . A very special thing happened this night our boy the Rye Bone got that first tyee he has been chasing for 5 years. And best of all Riley did us all proud and realeased this solo caught beauty. To say we were happy and proud of our boy just doesn’t do it justice. The next day was the first time my 2 thumbs up weather forecasting has failed us yet. I blew it bad and we were treated to a crazy day of rain and wicked winds. I was up at 4 am checking knots to make sure we hadn’t lost a boat or 2 in the storm. I was shocked that the Volkswagen didn’t join me at this hour.Fishing was very tuff with kelp being the most caught species of the day. Not one to ever be deterred from my butterflies and rainbows view of the world we gave it the 2 thumbs up for the weather for day 3. And the forecast nailed it . The boys and I took our group of Albertans over to #3 and the HO DOWN was on we filled the dock with beauty’s. Changeover day and this being a real nice group of people and day 2 being so ruff we laoded the guide boats and went back for another shot at the Northerns. The Boys did Duncanby proud and limited out this group. 1800 pounds of fillets flew home with them today. Sorry the this week is a bit late again. I flew home today and just ran out of time. Leigh and I will be back at Duncanby on Friday and this time were not leaving until Sept 5th.

17 August 2011
Hello all sorry that the this week is a day late its been a busy fun filled week. First up we had a group of mostly old friends and long time old school fisher people. They once again proved that most of the big fish get caught with the cut plugs and mooching style. The Al Genberg memorial plaque went to Butch with a beauty 40 pounder netted by his Dad and last year’s champ Doug. Our Friends Ted and the boys from the Valley brought their usual amount of fun and laughs with them. My pal Magellan did his usual grab a tyee move on changeover day morning. The Few newbies on this trip were awesome and are now and forever part of Duncanby. Next up was our annual Team Lordco trip where we have 40 people on the trip. Hosted by our Pal John Hussey from Fram. This trip is a highlite of the season for us all. We look forward to seeing some old friends and meeting some new ones. Ed Coates and his Lordco family truly get the Duncanby Difference and the Crew Leigh and I love being part of this special trip every year. For the fans of our web site the this week area can only hold 50 pictures at a time. But as we add new this weeks the old pictures go to the photo album forever. For those of you wondering about the pictures of me giving out hats on this week. Its done on feast night and they are for monster Coho’s Tyee’s Mosnter Hali’s and most important of all the Tie Dye hats are presented to the Duncanby guest who most represents the Duncanby Tie Dye spirit. “You can never have a bad day when you’re wearing Tie Dye” This award is voted on by the crew and is giving with much love and respect to very special people. Well its my Dream Girls birthday today. We had a nice sleep in today. And are going to spend the rest of the day on the water just us 2 . Take care all and we will talk to you all next Tuesday.

09 August 2011
Hello all another amazing week here at Duncanby. First up we had many great old friend and some fantastic first timers. Our friend Gary Copper was here again and he and Mack filmed 3 great episodes of nice fish that will air on Wfn and several other channels in the new year. Mack was thrilled landing a 32 pound Tyee on his 8 weight fly rod and Hardy reel. The official voice of Duncanby Hockey night in Canada’s Jim Hughson was back again and landed a 30 and 42 lbs tyee. The largest Tyee of the trip was caught by my Pal Brad a long time Duncanby friend at 44 lbs. Fishing and the weather was incredible and we had to fly out 600 lbs of fish on an earlier plane as we had no more room on the planes for the total catch. Next up was our annual Tyee derby with Bryn Johnson winning the 2 free trips with a beauty 41 pounder. Bryn is our youngest Kyle’s favorite teacher at high school so to say we were all happy for him is a bit of an understatement. Leigh and I took Sydney Olivia fishing yesterday morning. We left the dock at 11:30 arrived at Crazy Town and Sydney not only caught her first ever salmon but went 4-4 and we were back at the dock by 1:00 there are a few pictures and many laughs were had. Well changeover is over now and Leigh has flown home to tend to business today. Im gona go fishing this aft with a pal from my high school days. Im flying home tomorrow for a few days but we will both be back Friday to make milk shakes in the happiest place on earth. Oh and the hump back whales are back. Our schedualed whale shows off the dock and on the water are incredible. The weather is unreal great to go with fishing.

02 August 2011
Hello all another great week of fun, laughs and memories at Duncanby this week. Fishing has been fantastic and the weather has turned into summer. First up we had a great group from Budget Brake hosted by my pals Doug and Lane. Joined by some old Duncanby friends Richard and Frecia along with some newbies from Texas and Oklahoma. They were the best newbie fisherman we have had in a long time Mike got our first 50 of the year and Vicki is leading the lady Tyee board with a 42 lbs beauty. A crazy weather situation at Campbell river on Saturday resulted in us not getting our guests out of Vancouver or Duncanby. It worked out very well for the crew here and the few that wern’t limited out managed to get that dealt with. Leigh did an amazing job keeping 30 people entertained and informed on this crazy day and than had to find hotels and get us planes for Sunday as ours were unavailable. She pulled it off and we had everyone in by 11 am Sunday. To say this group made up for having a short trip was proven when we had to fly an extra plane in today to haul out the fish they got. A huge way to go to team Duncanby on this trip and double changeover day. This group was fantastic with many old friends. My pal Peter you and your group are a highlight for all of us every year. But next year were getting you your own special radio channel. We had some great new friends join the Duncanby family this trip. Its always so cool for us to be a part of families and friends spending real quality time together. Leighs Dad and Teena were on this trip . Well its time to go and help out on the dock as were flying home today but will be back on Friday to make milk shakes.

26 July 2011
Week 10 was awesome to say the least. I flew back in on Thursday and the weather improved immediately as evidenced by the sun burns. The site of Katherine applying vitamin e lotion to Todd’s rather hot pink head will stay with me for a while. The first few days of this week were a tad rainy. Fishing was fantastic with almost everyone on the first trip limited out on day 4. A well deserved sleep in and hang out on the ravens roost in the sun day was in order for most. Leigh and my friend Lynne flew in with me on the 21st to help out with serving and we thank her for jumping in when we needed a hand. The 2nd trip had awesome weather from start to finish with great fishing. This being the short trip over half were limited out after day 3. Leigh and my Sydney Olivia flew in on the 23rd and to say I was happy to have my two beauties with me just doesn’t describe how happy I am when my girls are here at Duncanby with me. Sydney and Katherine are job sharing this season as Lady Katherine is going to go and spend 5 weeks visiting family and awaiting the birth of a new niece or nephew. We will all miss her and look forward to her return. For those of you who know Sydney you know how much fun she is. She Allison and I are called Team S.A.S. Just wait till you see us in action. Leigh is flying home today for this trip as I am guiding a large group. She did offer to trade and have me go home but we did rock paper scissors and I won. We had a great day on the water with Lynne yesterday and she will be back on the 30th. Well its change over day and its time to call the last boats off the water. Talk to you all next Tuesday.

18 July 2011
Hello all I am writing this from home tonight as real world responsibilities had Leigh and I fly home with the first group of the week on Saturday. What a great group this was not only did all 28 of them limit out on salmon but some big fish as well. We had 5 Tyee’s and an 18 lbs coho along with a ton of great Chinooks and other huge coho. 2222 lbs of fillets were flown out along with a very happy group. This group was made up of many old and some new friends as well. Rod you are a true friend and your crew is a highlight of all the kids year. Young Guns great to have you back for your second trip of the season and Hammer Mojo and Case of Beer what can I say? The fish fight on the dock was a first. Mike thanks so much for your friendship and the plaque. It will hang with honor for ever. Your group was awesome and thanks for bringing our first group from the land of Auzz. The site Of Auzzie Mike in full attack with riggers out looking for more gear will never be forgotten. It was like being under attack. Always great to have your crew with us and it was a pleasure giving you the tie dye hat award. Pablo we look forward to your pictures as always. Ken Lee Tracy and Jeff thanks for the laughs and glad to see that Lee always gets the biggest salmon in your group. Next year is Tracy’s turn. Last but not least was Team Turk from the peg. Dave it was a pleasure to meet your Dad and brother and Kelly. This trip was very special for Leigh and I. We got to hang out fish and just be part of the group. It was like a vacation. We would sleep in till 11 hit the water about 12:30 limit out on Salmon by 3:30 or 4 than go jig in the drainy till it was time to come in. Leigh got her first Tyee a 34 lbs beauty she fought like a champ for 30 minutes. This was extra special as on day one she landed a 29 lber but was not interested in a Volkswagen Tyee. On Day 4 we kept a few nice Coho’s but released 20 smaller Springs and a ton of Coho’s. We also practiced netting but that’s a story for another time. We were looking for a 40. Nothing makes us happier than hanging out at Duncanby and thanks to this group for allowing us to just be part of the group. As mentioned we missed the next group in but they have had awesome weather and great fishing and at this exact moment they are having a Logie Milk shake which is hard for me as I haven’t missed a feast night yet. Leigh and I will be heading back up on Thursday after I make brief visits to Calgary and Edmonton.

12 July 2011
Hello all as promised here is my every Tuesday report. We have had another fantastic week here at Duncanby with two wonderful groups of new Duncanby friends. The first group was a made up of an amazing mix of people who mostly had never meet before who became a part of what Duncanby is all about from the beginning. Special thanks to Team Global and of Course everyone favorite Trevor Sr. Fishing was fantastic with everyone going home with full and some 2-3 full boxes. We had a lot of Ladies on this trip and they proved my point that getting up early in the morning is just silly. The guides loved the late starts afternoon naps but mostly the laughs. Marley the hali killer we will never forget you. Next up was a fantastic group of contractors from Washington and Oregon led by my friends Ali and Ayaz. Fishing was as good as it was for the previous group but these guys put in the time and most had full boxes and many had several. These hardworking business owners were a treat and all got the Duncanby feel. Rod your fish call’s and display on the hali grounds this am were some of the funniest things I have ever seen. And you look great in Tie Dye brother. Thanks to both groups for the kind words for my kids and Cole, Troy and I we all truly appreciate them. Well the planes will be landing soon and Leigh is on her way and I cant wait to see my girl.

05 July 2011
Well what a great 2nd week we have just completed. First up was our friends the farmers from Saskatchewan and Alberta. The flat landers did themselves proud. They started out being jammed 4 and 5 to a guide boat and by the end they were fishing and catching on their own. We are pleased to report that those Coho you were bringing in that last day and half have showed up thick now and most of the guest will fill their boxes full with beauty fillets to enjoy. This has now become an annual event and we are very happy that you will all be back next season. Thanks to all of you for your kind words about Duncanby and our crew. The feeling is mutual about all of you as well. Shannon has booked your dates for next year so get in touch with her soon as she tells me she has lots of bookings now. Next up was our annual Ocean Trailer trip. This trip is always very special to Leigh and I. We get a chance to share our Duncanby with people that we work with back in the real world. Many of you are family to us and getting a chance to spend time just being together here at Duncanby is always special for us and the crew. I get a tad emotional thinking about how special it is to be able to share Duncanby with so many. When Leigh and I got back to the dock on Sunday with Michelle and Stephanie to hear the words” it was the best Sunday of my life” really brought all that we try to be here home for us. Man did you light it up on the fishing grounds Everyone caught and played the awesome Chinooks that run threw this time of year. Several of you have bruised knuckles to prove it.enjoy your fish with family and friends. We look forward to sharing the stories of another amazing trip with all of you for years to come. Its changeover day so I best be getting back to work. I am going to write the Duncanby this week every Tuesday from now on (for those of you who remind me its called this week) I look forward to writing it and think about what I want to say on a regular basis and always want it to mean something more than just words. All the best everyone and keep watching the website for the pictures of the day. And we still have a few spots left on July 19-23 and 23-26th. If you want a shot at some great Chinook and Coho fishing book now.

29 June 2011
Hello all well opening day and Week one have just ended and I flew back with the group today. What a week plus one day it was. The opening day trip was simply awesome fishing was great 5 Tyee hats presented and a wonderful group of Old and new Duncanby family and friends. My first orientation and staff introduction was a little emotional for me. I am so proud of Duncanby our people and what we mean to so many people. Mack and his 80 year old Grampa Ron limited out on every species we catch. Leigh ‘s 80 year old Gram Nan did as well. Teena was in for 2 days and opened with a 26 and finished with a 33 on her birthday. Our other Newfie Family members did great as well but most of all they entertain the crew and make us all smile. My Pal Barney was there with his crew and to say I was thrilled to have my Tie Dye brother with me on opening day just doesn’t come close to how happy it made me to see him there smiling. And Shawn how cool was it to have him be the net man on your 37 lbs beauty. Our new Duncanby friends that were with us were a great group of people and they all got the Duncanby feel and are now forever part of our family as well. This group went home with 1763 lbs of filleted fish and many wonderful shared moments. Trip #2 didn’t have the same level of success with fishing and it certainly wasn’t from lack of effort but everyone went home with fish just not quite as much as the first. But what a wonderful group they were the respect and class the Gibson’s and Hare groups showed the crew and I was fantastic. The laughs and stories we shared while fishing ,eating or just hanging out are what life is truly all about. And to see 28 hard working captains of Industry just relax and enjoy the moments was very cool to be part of. The crew Leigh and I cant thank you all enough for your support and understanding with our cancelled flights on changeover day. I can’t think of a group of people who would have handled the delays better than you all did. Well as said I am back in the big city until 6:30 am Friday or 2 more sleeps than my Girl and I are on our way back in to spend a few days with the group in now. Feast night this week is also Canada day so the milk shakes will be enjoyed with fireworks. A special thanks to all of you who have helped us out with booking the July 19-23 and 23-26th trip that were cancelled on us last minute. We are almost full on both dates now but do have a few spots left.

20 June 2011
Hello all as I sit here at home in White Rock its only one more sleep till opening day. I’m like a kid on Christmas eve. Leigh sent me shopping today for about a zillion last minute little things. Im pretty sure she planned it that way as I was apparently disruptive to all my fine Ocean Trailer family trying to work. Leigh and I flew up on Saturday morning to say hi to all the crew and lend a hand with getting everything ready to go for opening day. Several of us took off at around 8 pm for a little test fishing and I’m pleased to report that all 5 boats played and landed some beauty Chinooks at the dome and Crazy town. We had salmon burgers for dinner. There is nothing like eating fresh wild salmon. Logie and the crew have done a fantastic job getting Duncanby ready for whats sure to be our best season ever. Special thanks to our master tradesman Woody. Woody you are a very talented fella and a big part of team Duncanby. This years crew is an outstanding group of people. Newbies Tyler, Charlotte, Liah ,Dylan and Michelle are great young people and I know you will all enjoy them as they already have the Duncanby spirit. I will get an early start tomorrow as the motor blew up on the Volkswagens boat tonight but rest assured that there will be a new 225 on its way in the morning and we will have it on in no time with our new boat maintenance facility . For the fans of the Rye Bone we are pleased to report that Riley will be joining us again on about 70% of our trips. Mack, Cole, Brydon, Mark,Troy, Logie and I look forward to having Rye Bone back on the water with us again. Our Kitchen Team of Luke ,Allison , Stewart, Kyle are ready to spoil you all with their amazing creations as always. Our Server team of Katherine, Sydney, Tyler, Charlotte, Liah and Michelle look forward to sharing many special moments with all of you. The dock and maintenance crew of Chelsea, Drew , Brody,Dylan and Richard will be there to process your fish fix up your gear and get you out on the water whenever your ready to go. Well I guess I should go and re sort my spoons and lures for the 100th time. Leigh I and Team Duncanby can’t wait to see you all this season. As mentioned last week we had a cancellation by a corporate group for an entire week. July 19-23 and 23 to 26th. We have managed to sell over half those spots but still have some openings available on those prime dates.

10 June 2011
Hello all friends of Duncanby bump up to channel 08 for a few announcements and thoughts. Hello all well its only 11 more sleeps till opening day and I can’t tell you how much Leigh the Crew and I are looking forward to what’s gona be our best year ever. We have a great opportunity for those of you who haven’t booked or couldn’t as we were sold out for 2011. We have had a cancellation for our July 19-23 and 23- 26th trips and have spots available now. If you would care to join us for these prime dates give Joann, Leigh or Me a Buzz and we will get you booked. Logie and the Team have been very busy getting Duncanby ready and from my fly in and out day last week it looks great and if it weren’t for the Canucks I wouldn’t have come back. The new North docks are amazing along with the many other improvements but we are most proud of our new sewage treatment system. We installed a state of the art system and nothing that can harm the environment or pollute the water will be discharged by Duncanby. It was the right thing to do for the future and we are and will be converting as many of our systems to be as Green as possible. Well with it being game day today I need to get ready to go and cheer on our Canucks in the quest for the Stanley Cup. Ocean Whaler standing buy on 06

09 May 2011
Hello All Friends of Duncanby Bump up to channel 08 for a new This week. Well were only 43 more sleeps till opening day. Take a look at the 30 lbs Beauty Logie got at Bull Island 5 minutes after dropping the lines. For those of you who don’t know Bull Island or as we call it the office is less than 2 minutes from the dock. Logie was taking a break from construction crew detail and came back with Dinner to spare for all. Man I wish I was there with him. Seniority would have resulted in Dave being the net man on that beauty. Our Construction and organizing the cazillion things we need for opening day are flying along. Leigh and I are very pleased to report that we are almost completely sold out for 2011. We have one cabin available on each of the June 21-25th, July 12-16th and July 30-Aug 2nd trips. These are the only 3 trips with very limited space left. Please drop Joann a line if you would like to grab one of them. As mentioned previously most of last year’s crew will be back and I am sure the few new members of Team Duncanby will fit in great. Several of the crew have been working on construction and boat repair this off season but our student world traveler crowd is getting a little low on cash so opening day can’t come soon enough for them as well. Thanks to all my extended Duncanby friends and family for the many calls and e mails these last few weeks. Hearing from you and talking about your trip this season is a blast for me. I truly look forward to seeing you all on the dock and sharing some laughs and memories. A dear Duncanby friend who has been coming since our first season sent Leigh and I note last week saying how he feels like he is part of Duncanby and Craig the feeling is mutual. We had our 18th annual Cystic Fibrosis Golf Tournament this past Thursday. It’s now called The “Mike Cassidy Legacy” in honor of my Friend who lost his battle with CF Last year. You will see Mike’s picture in Mikey’s Place Lounge when you arrive. Mike loved Duncanby and was and forever will be part of it. We raised over 200,000 again this year making our total almost 2.75 million over the years. Many Friends of Duncanby attend the event and Mack(who is getting short on cash) Leigh and I enjoyed seeing you all and wish to thank you for your support. Well its game 6 tonight so I should start getting focused as the boys need me “WE ARE ALL CANUCKS” Take care all we look forward to seeing you all soon. For those of you who are social networkers we are also on face book and twitter now please follow us along on the modern day information hiway’s.

21 April 2011
Only 61 more sleeps till opening Day and man are we excited. Sorry to all of you who check the website for updates on a regular basis. Its been crazy busy and I have sat down a couple of times to write a new one but got side tracked(those of you who know me well understand that my attention span can at times be a little short. Well here goes. As I have said many times I am the luckiest guy I know and have had more good fortune than I could possibly deserve. When we got the opportunity to buy Duncanby I had no idea how much it would come to mean to me and I can tell you it’s the only thing that I ever bought with money that has brought me true Joy and happiness. The moments and memories we have shared with family and friends are truly a privilege. We get to be a part of special moments and experiences with so many people that make me smile and bring the odd tear of joy to my eye when I think of them. The crew and I have meet many wonderful people over the years that are part of what makes Duncanby the magic place it is. We recently lost two of those friends. Our friend Jake Hildebrand past away suddenly this month. The Jakester was one of those incredible people that lived life to the fullest he always left you smiling and laughing. Jake “got it” he new what was important in life and was an example to the rest of us that kindness is always possible. We are very proud to be hosting The “JAKESTER MEMORIAL DERBY” this August the crew and his Pals will most definitely do it up right in Jake’s memory. Our dear friend Lois Stewart beloved wife of Jerry past on last week. Lois was an incredible person. She and Jerry were married for 61 years. They have been friends of Duncanby since the beginning and to see her and Jerry living and loving life with their refusal to get old was an inspiration to all of us. I am vey grateful to have had the opportunity to know Lois and Jake. The world is a better place for having had them in it. And they will forever be a part of what makes Duncanby special. I truly appreciate the notes calls and gifts that my extended Duncanby Family send me. I recently received a very special gift from my friend Barney who lives by our shared moto that you can’t have a bad day when you’re wearing Tie Dye. I love my new Duck Tape Tie Dye Wallet Barney, its in my pocket every day. Well I guess I should wrap this up and promise to try and up date this week more often. There are some great pictures of our construction projects on the site now. For those of you who haven’t booked for this season yet we do have very few spots left but send Joann a note and she will do her best to fit you in. Fishing and Memories are going to be awesome this year.

01 March 2011
Hello all. Well its only 108 more Sleeps till opening day. Logie, Joann, Rick, Woody, Volkswagen, Leigh and I are busy getting the zillion things done that need doin prior to the start of what we are sure will be our best season ever. I am asked by many of you on a regular basis what improvements we are making to Duncanby. This year like all prior we are doing just that. As you are all aware Duncanby is a labor of love to us. The changes you will see are the completely rebuilt 400’ North Dock. This is the dock that are lodge guests and the guides use. A NEW Deck on the north fuels float. We also are replacing the pier that is located out back where the workshop and crew quarters are. This new 100’ x 60’ pier will greatly improve our boat and engine repair capabilities as well as provide us much needed additional work and storage space. Not to mention a much larger tanning area for the crew. We will also be installing new anti slip rubber to all of our docks and walkways. There will be 7 new motors installed on the guest boats. Anyone interested in a great deal on one of our used 50 or 60hp Yamaha’s please send Logie a note. These Motors are all still in great shape. With the amount of hours we put on in a season its just time for them to slow down a bit. They are fantastic engines for you weekend warriors. For those of you who prefer your beverages ice cold a new high capacity ice machine will be located at the dock shack. Along with our new state of the art Triple seal Vac packer so that your always professionally filleted catch will be in great shape and ready for the barbeque when you pull it out of the freezer at home. The things you won’t see include many new pieces of Kitchen equipment so that Luke Stew and Allison can continue to prepare us all there amazing meals.(Yes Allison a new toaster). Improvements to our water system, a new incinerator and a brand new sewage treatment plant. Duncanby is committed to being responsible to the environment. It’s the right thing to do. (HAVING ALL THOSE SMART YOUNG KIDS AS PART OF THE DUNCANBY FAMILY REMINDING ME OF THIS) The plant is being shipped this month and will be fully operational prior to opening day. Logie is the newest home owner in Powell River and is excited to be getting started on boat repairs and maintenance in his huge new shop at his new Home. We are very pleased to report that most of our crew will be back with us this season. We have hired a few new Team members that are very excited to be part of the Duncanby family. The Trade show circuit is in Vancouver this week. Please stop by Abbotsford tradex and say hi. For those of you who have booked your 2011 trip THANK YOU we are almost completely sold out. Ocean Whaler calling please stay on 06 as we would like to share this message with everyone. First up we are pleased to report that booking’s for next season are incredible thank you to all who have booked with us for our 2011 season. Logie, Leigh and I are working on our plans for next season and know its going to be our best season ever. The 2011 Duncanby Calendar and DVD staring the Mack Attack were mailed recently if you didn’t get one or would like a few more please e mail joannb@duncanby.com and we will mail them to you. The economy has improved tremendously for many of us my Duncanby and Ocean Trailer families are all very grateful for all that we have and the opportunities we have to provide for our families. Sadly the economy has not improved for everyone and our thoughts are with those less fortunate. Its Christmas time and we along with many others do our best to help out at this time of the year. Leigh and I have become involved with Union Gospel Mission which is a fantastic organization that provides help to the homeless and people of our Downtown eastside. This year we asked our employees to donate items that people need on a daily basis that to us our basic needs but to others are a luxury the response from our family was fantastic and my Truck was loaded full. I delivered the load this morning right in the heart of Downtown Vancouver’s poorest neighborhood and my eyes were opened wide once again at the need for a helping hand that exists not only during Christmas but every day of the year. The people on the street are somebody’s, Parents, brothers, sisters, daughters and sons. Often in life we see problems and issues and think I would like to help or someone should help but I am only one person and what difference can I make. It takes courage to give of yourself to help when the issues seem so difficult. My Mom was one of those courageous people who dedicated her life to helping others and teaching and showing us that one person can make a difference. All of us have the ability to give. Some can give money and things and some cant but all of us have the ability to give the most valuable gift of all “TIME” . Merry Christmas and all the best to you and yours. “Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible” The Keay Family.

09 September 2010
Hello all well it is Sept. the 9th and as you know our 2010 season ended on Sept. 7th. Leigh and I are back in the real world and the transition and realization that its 281 more sleeps till opening day 2011 makes us just a little bit sad but also very excited about the season to come. We have so many great memories of 2010 and the special moments we were able to share with so many of you and the crew that big smiles return very quickly to our faces. On behalf of Team Duncanby we would like to thank you all for allowing us to be part of your lives and you will forever be a part of our Duncanby family and the Duncanby Difference. We were completely sold out for 2010 and are almost 60% booked for 2011 as of today. It warms our hearts to have this many re bookings at this point in the year for next season. As most of you know traditions are very important at Duncanby and one that we started a few years ago in the last this week is a mention and thanks to the Crew for the season. Many of the Kids (as I call them) as they are family to me will be back next season but some will not as they move onto life in the real world. This makes me sad and happy again as it’s a thrill to watch them grow and move onto the next stages of their lives but a very large part of my Heart wished they could just stay with us forever. So here goes the thanks to Team Duncanby 2010. Ritchie (Chop Sticks) friend your 100% full speed ahead effort was always appreciated I will never forget your lists and notes that came on several dozen small pieces of paper or backs of cigarette cartons with hand sketched drawings for the special piece or part you needed us to get you in the real world(usually after you dropped it off the dock) Chop Sticks you are a good man the way you treat others at all times is to be respected by all. You are a team player and your efforts and attitude was awesome. Thanks for the many laughs. We know that you will be a huge success at whatever you decide your future holds just not a s a singer. Miss Katherine you amaze us always your positive attitude and always ready smile are appreciated. We look forward to hearing of your travels around the globe and can’t wait to see you back next season.(Yes Miss Sydney will be with us) You should one day teach a course on how to be Drama Free on a daily basis. Thanks for the laughs and sometimes very long stories ( I really did want to stay and listen its just that I had to go at that exact moment). Steph our walking wounded warrior. I will miss our good morning conversations. (I’m Fantastic Steph) We wish you luck at Nursing school this year and please stay off of bunk beds. Luke our head chef. Luke the standing ovations received when I introduced you on Feast nights says it all. You are a man of few words Luke but we greatly respected the job you did and look forward to seeing you back next year after an off season of skiing and creating great meals at Apex. Stewie we thought we were getting a helper for the kitchen and what we got was a very talented young chef and a great member of our Team. You are and always will be a part of Duncanby. I miss my morning Hug already. Mark(Volkswagon) friend we love the passion that you approach everyday and everything with. Your move to Guide this year was a huge success. The smiles and stories from you and your guests were a highlight for all of us every day. Having you with us the last years has been an absolute joy you will always hold a special place in my heart you are one of my kids. Our fatherly advice chats and just sometimes plain old belly laugh conversations will not soon be forgotten. Good Luck My Friend and of course if travel and surfing take priority again this off season there will be a home for you with us. Brydon(Star Fish) Hey nephew of mine and I’m proud to tell people were family. You made me proud this year. Troy (Spider Man) Troy you are my friend and I truly value the loyalty you have for me. Thanks Friend. Cole ( The Faller from LantzVille) Faller is your new handle since Angelo already has chopper and Peace Core just isn’t working for me. We have been friends for 20 years and I will never forget what you said when we invited you up to do some guest guiding this year(Don’t Tease Me Sid that’s always been my dream) Well Bud you were awesome at it. And as we discussed if the badminton player will allow it your in full time next season. Angelo(Chopper) all we need to do is get you up a few more trips next season friend. Angelo you are a good man and we love having you as part Duncanby with us. Mack the world famous (Mack Attack) we are so proud of the fine young man you are. To watch you grow as a person (not just in Height) makes me very emotional. Words can’t describe the feeling’s I have when I see you on the water or at the dock with your guests. My Chest swells when people tell me what a great kid you are( I know it) But its an amazing emotion when others tell you. 6 years ago when we started you were just a little boy but today you are a Man. There are many days I miss the little Boy that’s why I will always send you a picture or 2 from season one just to remind you of how far we have come. Oh and next year you n me are fishing one morning in Jessie 6. And Last but certainly not least the love of my life my beautiful wife Leigh. I would be lost without you. You have my back and do so many of the things that I don’t like to do or are just plain old lousy at. We are a Team Dg and all with a brain in their head know it and see it. Well everyone there you go Team Duncanby 2010 and what a Team they were. The compliments we received on our crew were incredible. Many times I was stopped by business people and asked. Sid how do you do it? I would ask do what? They would go on to say how hard it is in there business to get people to work hard and enjoy what they do and treat people with such warmth and genuine concern for doing a great job. I would simply just smile and say thanks. I receive far to much of the credit for the special place Duncanby is. I tell them we are a Family and a Team. And that’s how we do it. Oh before I forget thanks to all that bought hatchery tickets we sold almost 700 of them this season another record for us and more than all the other lodges combined again. And The winner of the 2 trips for 2012 from the draw was Maureen. She was thrilled. The rest of you are still in the draw for some other prizes . We will keep you posted on that That’s all for now friends of Duncanby. I will keep you posted as we go thru the off season. And please feel free to send me your pictures from this year as were going to start work on the Calendar soon. Don’t forget to watch the schedule and send us a note to re book your trips. Take care all and thanks again for being part of our Duncanby Family. Ocean Whaler standing by on 06

Hello All friends of Duncanby bump up to channel 09 for a new this week. Well where do I start as I sit here in the back office at 10:30 on the first night of our last trip. I new I shoulda been writing a little sooner. Well here goes. Leigh and I Flew back in on the 26th just in time to bring back the sun and anjoy a great trip with a bunch of new and old friends, Diane, Darryl, Jerry, Lois, Deloris, Jim and many others had an outstanding trip with over 2000 lbs of filleted fishing going home with the group along with 17 Monster Coho hats being presented. Aug 28th was Leigh and my 1st anniversary and we had a great party with many of our long time Marina pals staying for the party with Leigh the crew and several of our guest’s joining in. It was a wonderful night and Leigh and I would like to thank you all for sharing it with us, Many women receive flowers cards or other stuff for anniversary gifts but not my girl. She was thrilled with her new (pink) Islander Reel. And yes she caught many fish with her and of course the party girl spoon. This trip while not as good as the previous for fish still had over 1400 lbs of fish being sent home. Next up Was our Annual coho derby along with our friend Gary Cooper joining us to film an episode or 2 for Nice Fish which will be airing soon in the new year. The 10,000 was one by my friend Wade Pottle with a beauty caught in the closing minutes of the derby. Scott I cant belive you came 2nd for the 3rd year in a row but what a sport you are and just a plain old good person. You and Bobbi along with Rod, Bob, Bo, Merle, Al , Dan , Will and Wade are all part of what makes Duncanby special. Mack was Gary’s guide this year and they had a blast catching big coho’s on the fly rods Gary tells me the shows are going to be fantastic and he can hardly wait to see them finished. I will leave out the who out fished who part until the shows air as Mack and Gary had a little competition going on there own. Today was a little bit of a sad day as many of the crew and Leigh flew home as its time to go back to school and the real world. The crew and I that are still here really miss them already. Well all that’s it for now. Ocean Whaler Standing by on 06

25 August 2010
Hello All well I have been home for 6 sleeps now and only have one more till I get to go back. Leigh has had to console me several times and make me come down off of the roof of the house and stop howling at the moon. Its been a very busy 7 days and we have jammed a ton of stuff in her in the Real World. But 7 days away in Summer is never ever gona happen again. It was all I could do to not jump on the planes as we did the Meet and Greet at Seair this week. The Week at Duncanby started off fantastic with amazing weather greeting a ton of old Friends of Duncanby my Ontario Brothers Jeff Don, Matt and Bill were out again with a great group of guys. I learn something new every time these guys come. Matt your hali rod and reel are in good hands. Don I will never ever miss Milk Shake night again as the boys think you filling in for me on the speeches was not such a good idea. (I wish I had been there to see and hear it). It was a pleasure having The Dutch Mafi and Kenny back as usual. Along with Team Pinsky Chernick my old Pal Don Jr And Duncanby’s first ever Triplets. The Crew enjoyed all of you. Sadly the next group in was not blessed with great weather( I think it was because I was in Vancouver) But Thanks to The Gangster Gang, Team Kamloops and some very nice new friends from California. A special well done to Terry for his lodge record 145 lbs Hali caught in a monsoon with the harpoon help of the Volkswagen. Leigh and I cant believe what an amazing year 2010 has been. Our Bookings for 2011 are fantastic and we are over 1/3rd booked for 2011 now. Those of you that would like to book spots for next season can take advantage of the 250.00 per trip early bird discount discount and an added bonus of 100.00 Duncanby bucks for every trip booked prior to Sept. 1 2010. In closing I would like to say I receive way to much credit for the success that Duncanby has become for those of you that have been with us you know we are a family at Duncanby and All of us are what makes Duncanby Special.. I truly appreciate the kind words sent my way as well as the gifts sent or brought to me threw out the year. They are all special. But Today I got the best gift yet. My very own Bobble Head that looks exactly like me except the hair is way greyer than mine but I love it. I told Leigh we needed to order a bunch for the store. She just smiled and laughed as she walked away. As apparently one Sid Bobble Head is enough. For those joining us for the last few trips we are having a huge sale on our clothing and stuff. For those that aren't don’t worry you get the same great deals at the online Ocean Whaler Store. Sorry No Bobble Heads available. OH before I forget thanks to all of you who have asked about Steph. She is great and is back at Duncanby almost as good as new. 20 August 2010
Well here we go what a week and a bit Leigh the Crew and I have had. It started out with a Wonderful group of old Duncanby Friends. Barney you and your Boys were a joy to have with us. Keep wearing the Tie-Dye Bud as you and I know everyday is great day. Were thrilled to have you and the boys from Arrow booked for next year. As most of you know traditions are important at Duncanby. A very good man named Al Genberg who fished with us his family and friends. Has had a memorial Derby named in his honor which will be forever part of this trip. The winner this year was Doug O’Donnell with a pair of 47 lbs beauties caught in the traditional cut plug style that he and his son Butch will always fish. Doug’s name is gona look great on the Plaque in the lounge. Special thanks to my friend Magelin for the gift or loan of His Dad’s perfectly restored Peat’s Reel and Rod that now hangs in Mikey’s Place. Fishing Laugh’s and memories were had by all on this trip and of course a special hello to Princess Sparkles. Barney will guide you next year so that you can catch a Tyee like Phil. The next Group in was our largest group of the year and to say we had fun would not even come close to doing this trip justice. It was AWESOME. Our heat felt thanks To Ed Coates his brother Doug there Lordco Family John, Guy and Honeywell for being with us again this year. The Standing Ovation you all gave to the Crew on Feast Night was OVER THE TOP and it meant a lot to all of us. The weather , fishing, whale shows were also fantastic adding to the special memories for all of us. And Last but not least Leigh’s now 3 day Birthday celebration started on the 17th but her big presents came on the 18th. A day of fishing and hanging out together all by ourselves is now a tradition on Leigh’s birthday and it was a day the two of us will treasure forever. We laughed and just hung out not to mention limiting out in a few hours and Leigh landing a double header with me acting only as net man. And I know she will forever cherish her new Dawson’s landing Tee Shirt I bought her at the Rivers Inlet Mall. We flew home on the 19th after finally getting to fish with Lucky Socks for a few hours. Kyle landed 4 beauties in 90 minutes befor it was time to head in for our flight home. We only got to fish for 90 minutes as the Mack attack and his guests had a 115 lbs Hali on off shore and Mack had forgotten his harpoon. So it was Dad to the rescue. Were sadly going to be here in the Big City until next Thursday taking care of a few things. I will send a new report soon.

02 August 2010
This past week started off with a bang with another great group of old Duncanby friends. It was great for Carol to finally land that Hali she has always wanted. The voice of Duncanby and Hockey Night in Canada Jim Hughson was with us and he and Mack had a 4 spring evening at Cranstown the pictures on the web say it all. They were to pretty happy guys. This trip was filled with many old and a bunch of new friends. I know I’m not supposed to have favorites but I do and Coulson you will always be a part of Duncanby. The video of you Your Dad and Matt hugging after getting the big spring is the best. Fishing was solid with most going home with full boxes. Our next trip got off to a bit of a slow start with our first ever flight delay do to the smoke from the forest fires and fog. I’m pleased to report that a bit of rain has greatly improved the air quality and the flight home yesterday was spectacular and on time. The delay was only 1.5 hours and Leigh did a great job entertaining 36 guys till it was time to go. Fishing on this trip wasn’t as good as we had hoped but there were 5 Tyee’s caught and a few others long lined released. The fishing did improve towards the end of the trip and most went home with a smile on their face. Special thanks to Trap and Chico Team Duncanby loves you and your group. We sadly had our 2nd ever injury on Monday and had to fly Stephanie out to the hospital. We are happy to report that she I going to be fine. Special thanks to Rybone for an awesome job with the first aid. As well as to JJ Lorraine and Tenna for helping keep Steph comfortable. As mentioned Leigh and I are back in the big city. We had a couple of things that had to be done and but will be heading back to Duncanby on Friday. I best get back to work now so that I c\\we cn catch that Friday flight back.

27 July 2010
What a week its been we had our Tyee Derby this week and it was won by Kathy Fergolia with a 42 pound beauty caught of the squirrely Rocks and guided by the Rye-Bone for his first derby winner. The trip was a blast with the Marina full of many old friends and great weather. It was a pleasure having my Dad and his friends come up on there boats to celebrate Dad’s birthday along with Brother Mike making a visit to Duncanby. The trip that followed was simply amazing Elmar Reintzer landed a 55 lbs Beauty Chinook off of Charbot which has now been renamed little Vienna. The crew and I were thrilled for he and his partner Friedriich. Its been an absolute pleasure having our German and Austrian guests join us and become part of Duncanby this year. This trip was also special as it included 20 of Leigh and I’s Ocean Trailer family. Well its time to get back to work all its changeover day and we have a ton of work to do as most guest on this trip are limited out on everything the Coho are in thick with the largest being 18 lbs caught yesterday.

20 July 2010
What a last week and half its been for all of us here at Duncanby. Our weather while sunny had been windy but we are pleased to report that the winds have left and fishing is really starting to improve. My favourite thing about Duncanby life is the special people and experiences we all get to share together. We were very pleased to play a small part in the first annual Canadian Tire Jump Start Derby that raised $30,000 last week here at Duncanby. What a great group of Guys your independent Canadian Tire Store owners are. This week we has The Driving Force Softball Champs in and what a group of quality people these guys are. They presented me with a 3500.00 Donation to my 15 year employee Matty who is battling cancer. It was a very emotional moment and not a dry eye was in the house. Well its change over day today so I best get back to work.

01 July 2010
Hello All Friends of Duncanby Bump up to channel 08. Sorry for my lack of updates over the last few months I promise to send an update every week from here on. A lot has happened over these last few months my Mom passed away on May 27th. Leigh Mike and I spent 3 amazing months with her and we will all forever cherish the special time we shared with Mom at the end of her time. Mom will always be with us and we only have happy thoughts of her. As many of you know my Best Friend Mike Cassidy had Cystic Fibrosis and was on the Lung Transplant list. Mikes 46 year battle with CF ended on June 17th. Mike loved Duncanby and the lounge has been renamed Mikey’s place in his honor. I am so lucky to have had these 2 people in my life. I have spent most of my time since opening day with the exception of Sydney’s graduation at the lodge. And now more than ever I am even more grateful for Duncanby and the special place it is. We have had fabulous guest’s join us for the start of the season I and the crew have had a blast seeing old and making new friends and sharing some unbelievable experiences. Its such an honor to play a small part in making lasting memories for family and friends. Fishing and the weather have had a few challenging days but everyone is catching fish and the weather has always managed to shine at least a little bit. Well its time to go as Im heading for the Float plane to fly back to Duncanby today and make Milk Shakes tonight. Oh I should mention your all going to Love the direct flights. 1 hour and 30 minutes and your there its awesome. Team Duncanby looks forward to seeing you soon. Ocean Whaler Standing by on 06

18 June 2010
Hello once again all. We are fully open and operational. The boats are out fishing as I write. Yesterday was arguably the best day of fishing we have had all year, with lots of nice Chinook, Halibut and Cod. Weather has been calm and rainy, although it is dry out as I look out the window right now. Our first wave of guests came in on our new airline: sea air. We would like to thank Sea Air for giving us the quickest and best service we have ever received. Our next wave of guests come in on Saturday. Starting with that trip we are sold out until September 4th. We would like to thank you all for your continued support and we look forward to getting you out on the water. 40lbs is now the largest Chinook caught this season. It was caught by Marcel Tousoingant with his guide Volkswagen. This is VW’s first year as a guide and has already set a nice bench mark for largest guided fish. Volkswagen was almost as excited as his guests when he hung that hog up on the scale. In fact, I don’t think he slept last night. He stayed up all night sharpening hooks and waiting for his charter again today. 40lbs is a nice fish for this time of year. We often see lots of 30+lbers but to see a 40lber right now is a great sign of things to come. So pack your bags and mark your departure date on the calendar. We will be waiting for you when you get off the plane. See you soon! Team Duncanby

01 June 2010
Hello to all, our apologies for not updating the “this week” in a while. Things have been go go go for us lately. Our first crew is heading up to the lodge for the summer today. Strong winds might make for a bumpy ride, but our boys can take it. Logy and Volkswagan are leading the way as I write this. Franchise, mack attack and chopsticks will be following suit on the 13th of this month. The big barge is on its way today. This will bring us everything we need to finish pre season construction and stock the cupboards for the season. Bait and fishing equipment too of course.... If you have not booked your Duncanby trip yet, you have better pick a date soon. June 22 and September 4th are our last 2 trips with availability. And they are almost full too. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who have chosen to take part in the Duncanby experience with us this year. We can’t wait to put you on some fish! I would also like to mention our new freshwater tours at Duncanby. Guests can now have a guide take them deep into the hidden inlets of our prestige landscape where we will walk river beds and fish untouched pools. We also offer day excursions where we will hike belly boats into Stillwater lakes and cast flies or lures. By my count, there are some 20 days, 14hrs and 4 minutes until opening day. I know I speak for all when I say it can’t get here fast enough. If anyone has any questions about the upcoming season please feel free to call or email any time. We look forward to seeing you all soon. Sincerely, Corey (franchise) Gordon

07 March 2010
Hello all friends of Duncanby. We have put a few new Photo’s on this week from the Olympics. Leigh and I were thrilled to share this special time with the Kids and many of our friends. We loved every minute of it being proud Canadians. Thanks to my many American friends on the positive comments on The Job our City , Province and Country did. We have ordered 3 new flag pole’s for the pier and will proudly be flying the Canadian, US and flags of our visiting guests from other countries this year. Oh and for the many female fans of our Mogily there is a great picture of Ben in his new uniform. As I sit at our kitchen writing my thoughts after spending the day with Leigh, Logie Franchise and dozens of Duncanby Friends at the local sportsman show its all I can do not to just head for the lodge now. As mentioned in recent this weeks our bookings are beyond our wildest dreams. It heartens me as you know Duncanby is a passion for my family and we are thrilled to have you all share it with us. When we started on this adventure 6 seasons ago Duncanby was a special place that we just wanted to make better without ever losing that feeling of being in that special place. A very large part of our success is the word of mouth advertising that the friends of Duncanby have done for us. We thank you and can’t wait to see you on the dock. For returning friends don’t forget that we have changed our flights. We now fly NON STOP DIRECT to Duncanby from the Float Plane terminal at YVR with Seair we also have FREE parking at the Seair facility. We will miss our friends in Port Hardy but we won’t miss the weather delays. This direct travel will take only 90 minutes from Vancouver to the Dock at Duncanby. We also now fly on Tuesday’s and Saturday’s flight leaving Vancouver at noon and returning at 4 pm. Asiah (or as I call her Sophia) will be sending you detailed instructions and reminders. NOW FOR OUR MANY MALE FRIENDS OF DUNCANBY REPEAT AFTER ME. WE FLY DIRECT FROM VANCOUVER AND DON’T GO TO PORT HARDY ANYMORE. For those of you who haven’t booked your trip for 2010 take a look at the bookings page and your Duncanby Calendar and grab one of the few remaining spots. The crew would love to see you, and yes most of our crew from last year will be joining us again this season along with a few new additions to the Team many of which are not new to Duncanby just new to working there. I don’t think we have ever had a kid at Duncanby that didn’t tell me he wanted to work there some day. We have added several extra crew spots this year to better serve you on the dock, water and your entire Duncanby Difference Experience.

Hello Duncanby subscribers. What a beautiful day out here on the sunshine coast of British Columbia. The sun is gleaming, the birds are chirping, and the countdown grows closer to opening day for Duncanby 2010. I would like to take a second if I may to cheer on our Canadian men’s ice hockey team. After a few up and down games we have found our stride, with a good old fashion beating of our Russian friends and teammates. You know what they say in Canadian ice hockey: gold is the only medal. So I know you are all eager to know how the lodge is doing. GM Dave Logan is up there as we speak, tying up a few loose ends and getting started on some of our new improvements at the lodge. If you know Duncanby, we don’t like to go an entire offseason without at least a few new upgrades. After all, there is always room for improvement. Although at Duncanby it can sometimes be hard to find places that need it. We have just returned from our USA trade show circuit. We met some new friends and seen even more old ones. Thank you to all who took the time to say hello. It began with a 2 week road trip to California. We were excited to escape to the warmth, only to find ourselves amongst one of Cali’s largest storms in recent history. Needless to say we didn’t get to play as much golf as we had hoped. Next our tour took us to Washington, where we spent a week. Then back down to Portland Oregon. We are now spending the next week on our computers only to return to Abbotsford, Edmonton, and Toronto. If you would like to visit at one of the remaining shows, please do! Give me a call and I would be glad to leave you some tickets at will call. The shows have been good to us, but even better has been word of mouth. Everyone has now heard of Duncanby, and what makes us the best lodge on the coast. We are almost sold out for 2010. I can’t believe it, we are almost 90 percent full of eager fishermen. We have a hand full of dates available, and I can guarantee you, they won’t last long. August is sold out completely; we couldn’t fit another booking in there if we tried. July is almost the same. Don’t be sceptical of our remaining dates. My favourite time to fish for Chinook is late June early July. We get our highest frequency of Chinook at this time, no question. And better yet, we are the only lodge open at that time. Imagine slaying springs at the wall and being the only boat! That is what it’s all about. I’d better get back to work; I have a list a mile long of people to call who want to know more about Duncanby Lodge in legendary Rivers Inlet. I look forward to seeing you all there this summer. Sincerely, The Franchise

Hello all its been a bit since my last report. Happy new year to all of you. We have tons of stuff to report. 2010 is going to be a great year for all us. I see many signs of an improving economy. Our bookings are so far ahead of last year its amazing. The reports for Chinook and Coho returns to Rivers Inlet for 2010 are the best I have ever seen. Those of you lucky enough to have been with us at Duncanby last season know how great a year it was. And 2010 at Duncanby in world famous Rivers Inlet is going to be even better. Logie , Franchise and Ryebone are on the show tour as we speak they will be in Puyallup this week and like San Mateo and Sacramento they look forward to seeing old and making some new friends. We are having a draw for a free trip for 2 at each show. We are very pleased to report the addition of a 26’ Grady White to the fleet and to say the Franchise is excited about his new boat would be a bit of an understatement. Stoked, Pumped, awesome, rad, narly and various other words that the younger set use would apply. As always our planning for next season is well under way we will have some great suprizes for you when you arrive at the dock this season. Our Pal Rod Pybus has built us a new Scale that is simply fantastic . I cant wait to have my picture taken in front of it. We have a full stock of Duncanby Gear waiting for you with some great new additions and more to come. If you can’t wait till your trip we have free shipping on the on line Ocean Whaler Store. We at Duncanby consider ourselves to be very lucky people for all that we have and to have Duncanby as part of our lives. As always we have donated many trips to fundraise for many great cause’s such as Cystic Fibrosis, Alzheimer’s, Center for Child Development, ALS, Hospitals, Sunshine Dreams for Kids University’s and Schools and many other great causes thanks to those of you who have purchased these trips in support of our communities. We have also started a program that we hope to make an annual event. Its called Hooks for High School and you can check it out on the Duncanby web site. We have 27 trips available on the June 26-29th Trip 100% of every Dollar paid will be donated to fund High school sports programs in need. THAT’S 100% EVERYONE Duncanby will not keep one penny of this money. As we are all aware hard times have hit many of us our family and friends. This has resulted in fewer dollars available for High school sports and many other things the kids need. I assure you that your dollars will go to great use I the schools and communities that need it most. Well its time to get back to work tight lines and keep your tip up.

What a difference a year makes. Fishing is absolutely fantastic. It has been so good we ran out of Tyee Hats, Fish Boxes and labels. But rest easy all, I am on my way back in tomorrow with a fresh supply. I want to thank all of the friends of Duncanby for their support over the last few weeks. We like many other businesses were way down in our bookings this season. When fishing and the weather just kept getting better a great many of my Duncanby friends came through and started booking trips or passing on their recommendations to others. We are now almost completely sold out. We do have a few spots on some prime dates. Check out the website for the current pictures and read the testimonial’s page and give me a call or send me an e mail and we will get you up to Duncanby this year. I have mentioned the outstanding crew we have at the Lodge this season. But I haven’t properly recognized Asiah our Lady that handles the bookings and a million other things back home and Chris Wu our website guy. They both do an outstanding job keeping up with my and Leigh’s requests and we thank them. I can’t believe how many of you check out the website regularly and tell me about it or that its your home page at home or at work. We had Asiah up on her first ever trip this week and she is a natural Fisher Person landing several nice fish and much to our pleasure releasing way more than she kept. I can honestly say I have never had a person shed Tears of emotion on the Ocean Whaler when they caught a fish like my friend Asiah, it was a pleasure for Leigh and I to spend some Duncanby Time with her and several other of our Ocean Trailer Family and Friends along with new Friends of Duncanby and a crew of my child hood pals. Asiah even had Logie gently releasing Turbot while Hali Fishing. When we first started out on our Duncanby life 5 years ago I had a plan to make Duncanby different than your standard lodge experience. I knew it would work and now that our fishing is back our future looks as fabulous as a Duncanby Sunset. We continue to invest in the lodge and our equipment each year and promise to continue with that. The addition of guides we now have 6 guide boats, the GPS units for safety and finding the hot spots, the down riggers have all added to the Duncanby Difference. You are a welcome guest in a friends home when you are at Duncanby. Leigh , Logie the Crew and I would like to thank all that have been there with us this season to share a few special moments or just a good laugh. And we all look forward to the trips yet to come. I am on my way back in tomorrow and I can’t wait. Oh and a special congratulations to my friend Don Coe who won the Tyee Derby this past week. Don you are a friend and I treasure the time we spend together. The best lady Fisherperson I know Kathy Feroglia was up for her second trip this season and is our newest member of the Tyee club. Plus she brought Jessie a new bed, ball, and bandana. Kathy landed and released over a dozen Chinooks looking for that first Tyee and it was a thrill to present her with the hat and pin and welcome her to the Club.

Hello all Leigh and I have just returned from another great trip and cant wait to get back up. Last week was absolutely fantastic with the best fishing we have ever had and weather that was good to great everyday. Almost all of our guests flew home with limits of Chinook, Coho, Halibut and a variety of rock fish. We have had so many Tyee’s that we had to order more Hats. The Coho are approaching 10 lbs and will continue to add a pound per week so there are going to be some monster Coho in August. Besides our end of season Coho Derby (only 4 spots left on it) we have a 10,000 cash prize for the first Coho Caught by a Duncanby guest that weighs 26 lbs or more on any trip this season. Our Tyee Derby is July 19th we are all totally pumped about this trip this year as we have had more Chinooks in our first 3 weeks than we had all of last year. There are still 4 spots left for the Tyee derby with a 10,000 cash prize for the largest Chinook caught by a Duncanby guest. Give me a buzz if you would like to grab these last 4 spots. Last week was very special for many things other than the great fishing. We had old friends back along with some new. We had families and Couples fishing and sharing special moments with our Team. Happy Anniversary Shawn and Annie. A special hello to my Friend Adam you are awesome and I can’t wait to hear about your travels representing Canada in swimming. And a huge thanks to my other new and old friends on both trips last week you were all pArt of some special memories for The Crew and Leigh and I. Leigh and I got to spend a few days fishing and just hanging out and we loved it. And I am pleased to report that after a few more practice days we will probably have our first Lady Guide. She can now run the gear, cut bait, tie leaders we just need to get a stool to stand on so she can see when driving. This week is off to a roaring start we have Gary Cooper and his 9 year old Grandson Dylan at Duncanby filming shows for next year. Dylan got his first ever Tyee on the first afternoon and several other nice fish with the FRANCHISE. Gary was fishing with Logie and on day 2 had an epic day on the Fly Rods landing 2 Tyee’s and several 25 plus pounders. Trust m I wish I was there and its all I can do to not jump on the next flight up but as the Kids always say to me THE REAL WORLD NEEDS ME TO. We have been so busy since getting back on Sunday that we haven’t got all of last week’s pictures posted but will have it done shortly. In closing I would like to thank all of the friends of Duncanby for their support this season and a large reason for me being back in Town a fair bit so far has been the need to sell some trips. The response I have had from calls to many of you has been fantastic and I have enjoyed our chats and laughs. We do have a few prime season dates left on a few trip’s but we have a very special deal for Aug 2-6 Trip call or e mail me if you would like to share the Duncanby Difference with us and a special friend or family member. We are very proud of the fact that Duncanby is a special place where the young, Young at Heart and all people are welcome.

Hello all just a quick this week today. You will all notice the new pictures on this week. They are being taken by our caretaker Rick Dunn who is the handsome fella wearing the Canucks Jersey in a few of the pictures . Rick spends the entire offseason watching over our Duncanby and is very much a part of Team Duncanby. Rick will be taking pictures every week of our progress getting ready for opening day . The eagle you see in these shots is Ricks pal Edie who spends every offseason with Rick. For those that have never seen Duncanby in the off season don’t worry we will have the docks towed back and placed very soon. Logie and the boys have been very busy getting everything ready for our 2010 season as opening day can’t come soon enough for us. You would not believe the amount of work that goes into getting ready for the season. But it’s a labour of love. For those that haven’t booked there trip this year we only have 3 trips with limited space left give Franchise or Charlie a call and they will get you booked. Now that were in the home stretch there will be a Duncanby this week every week from now on.

Well its only 73 more sleeps till opening day. We are so excited about our 2010 season and seeing you all soon. As said in previous this weeks our bookings for this year are unbelievable we only have 4 trips with very limited space on them left. So if you haven’t booked already or are thinking that another trip is a good idea take a look at your Duncanby calendar and give the Franchise a buzz. Our plans and work getting ready for this season are well under way. We have 2 new floats going in as well as improvements to our fuel, fish and equipment storage facilities as well as a new and improved maintenance area. Logie and the boys are getting the boats polished and ready to spend another summer exploring all of the great spots. We are excited to introduce my youngest brother Charlie Keay as the newest member of Team Duncanby. Char will be taking over the administration and doing the airport meet and greet this year. My friend Asiah has moved on to further the use of her accounting degree. We wish her well and will miss her. I am very pleased to report that we have most of our crew coming back along with some great new Team members along with the return of Teena is a server /hostess role which she and us are thrilled about.
